NIKA is hiring for a Fire Extinguisher Technician whose primary focus will be to install, inspect and service fire extinguishers, suppression systems and related equipment throughout the Naval Medical Center San Diego and off-site clinics.

Primary Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly and annual inspections of over 1200 fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10, The Joint Commission, and The Office of the State Fire Marshal. 
  • Maintain all records of fire extinguisher inspections in a commercial off the shelf fire extinguisher software system. 
  • Ensure all extinguishers are bar coded and tracked in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Responsible for all 5-year recharge, 6 year recharge, and 12 year hydrostatic tests utilizing a third party vendor. 
  • Create detailed records of maintenance performed and submit deficiencies to Supervisor
  • Responsible for generating reports monthly and ad-hoc reports based upon inspection results and findings. 
  • Respond to fire extinguisher emergency service requests

Education, Training, and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of Fire Extinguisher inspection, service and maintenance required
  • Experience working with Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers, CO2 Fire Extinguishers, K-Class Fire Extinguishers, and Water Mist Fire Extinguishers
  • Knowledge of Fire & Building Codes, State of California Fire Extinguisher Law and Regulations, and NFPA Standards required
  • CA State Certification for servicing Fire Extinguishers required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • US Work Authorization and ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to transport equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
