HVAC Mechanic

NIKA is hiring for a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic to support a facilities operations and maintenance support services contract at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina!

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain large complex HVAC systems components involving air handlers, chillers, cooling towers and feed water regulators
  • Operate, repair and maintain air conditioning equipment involving centrifugal, scroll, rotary screw chillers, cooling towers, associated chilled water pumps and spray water pumps
  • Use schematics, drawings, blueprints, or other technical documents
  • Operate, adjust and repair air conditioning systems which are controlled by computer-based systems, including direct digital, microprocessor, electro pneumatic, electronic and automated logic systems
  • Trace and locate equipment failures
  • Collaborate with subcontractors as needed
  • Ensure contract performance in accordance with the direction and policies of NIKA.

Required Skills

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience working with large HVAC systems in commercial facilities
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Background and knowledge of the practices, procedures and processes of contracts administration; knowledge of relevant laws, FAR, regulations, terms, conditions, and policies governing contracts; ability to prepare cost proposals and meet deadlines
  • Have a background in governmental maintenance services is preferred
  • Individual should be familiar with government organization and functions; understand current procurement best practices; able to organize and express ideas through excellent oral and written communications to a wide variety of audiences; and demonstrate an unquestionable sense of integrity, honesty, and loyalty
  • The ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and resolve issues


  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience using broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex issues
  • Excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to communicate with various levels within the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, other MS Office suite products, and CMMS is preferred
  • Ability to learn and use company software tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail and the ability to take initiative and adapt quickly to changing requirements

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Must have, as a minimum, a State of North Carolina HVAC Class I, heating group 2 license
  • Must maintain all required city/county/state license(s) and/or certification(s), where applicable.
  • Required to maintain a valid state driver’s license.
