HVAC Mechanical Engineer II

NIKA is hiring for a Mechanical Engineer II  who will provide technical expertise related to mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems used within healthcare facilities at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and outlying medical/dental clinics in the great San Diego area.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for applying knowledge of building construction, engineering principles, and healthcare facilities codes to support the Facilities Maintenance Department in developing and completing construction renovations projects and maintenance work repairs.  
  • Develops cost estimates, scopes of work, and generate various formats of engineering documentation to plan and execute facilities construction and utilities repair projects
  • Provides technical oversight to identify omissions and/or errors within submitted construction documentation
  • Reviews construction designs, shop drawings, submittals and supports the Government to respond to construction RFI’s
  • Function as a project manager, the primary interface between construction contractors and medical staff to ensure repair projects are installed as intended while safe clinical care operations continue uninterrupted
  • Support field testing and commissioning of mechanical HVAC components, equipment and systems
  • The mechanical engineer shall have sufficient experience in the inspection of mechanical and plumbing systems to be installed per contract documents and identify building systems deficiencies in order to provide recommendations for replacement or repairs

Job Requirements and Essential Skills:

  • 5-10 years of Mechanical Engineering experience within healthcare facilities and/or federal facilities strongly preferred
  • Professional Engineering License preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Secret Clearance required
  • Building and HVAC systems Commissioning preferred
  • Exposure working with DoD Facilities preferred
