NIKA is hiring for a Mechanical Engineer II who will provide technical expertise to mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems within healthcare facilities at the Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA!!

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position will apply knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
  • Responsible for conducting product testing and creating models and prototypes
  • May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products
  • Coordinates with the contractors through the construction manager during design, construction and closeout to ensure quality installations of mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Provides engineering support to the maintenance supervisor and facility managers to identify facility solutions
  • Reviews design and construction submittals and support the Contracting officer to respond to RFI’s
  • Testing and commissioning all aspects of HVAC mechanical components and equipment.
  • The mechanical engineer shall have sufficient experience in inspecting constructability of mechanical and plumbing systems, identifying deficiencies and inspecting equipment to be installed per contract documents
  • Prepares scopes of work for new construction and maintenance contracts
  • Assists with facility equipment inspections which includes a complete visual inspection of all mechanical and electrical components that require preventative maintenance
  • Evaluates each item inspected to determine if there is sufficient physical evidence, including life cycle analysis and energy savings, to warrant complete replacement of the system vice repairing only portions of the system

Job Requirements and Essential Skills:

  • 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience within healthcare facilities and/or federal facilities experience required.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience using broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex issues
  • Ability to learn and use company software tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail and the ability to take initiative and adapt quickly to changing requirements
