Are you an experienced Medical Equipment Planner/Interior Designer who wants to make a real difference? NIKA has an immediate opening for a Health Care Interior Design Architect to join a project management team assisting in the planning, design, construction, and IO&T of military medical facilities at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.

You’ll play a critical role in designing facilities at one of the most prestigious medical complexes in the world. WRNMMC has served our nation’s military heroes for more than six decades, and its highly regarded physicians have treated Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, among others. WRNMMC is proud to be known as the first destination in the continental United States for caring for the wounded, ill and injured from global conflicts.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or Architecture or related project management field from an accredited college/university

Position Requirements

  • 10-15+ years of related experience
  • Provide medical constructability technical support and monitor the quality of work performed on the project(s)
  • Ensure that construction agencies (i.e., NAVFAC and USACE) provide the client with complete and functional infrastructure(s) that adhere to the contracts and applicable guidelines/standards/codes
  • Advise the Program Manager or designated government representative(s) on coordination of project actions and resolving of issues between project stakeholders
  • Provide general and medical-specific technical advice, constructability support and information to ensure projects meet required standards/codes
  • Provide liaison oversight and assistance to the project governance board and local command activity staff during planning, design, construction, transition, commissioning, turnover and decommissioning associated with designated projects
  • Assist with space planning, space utilization, equipment and furniture procurement coordination, operating procedures, interior design, move planning, and budgeting
  • Support utilization of DoD’s Space and Equipment Planning System (SEPS)
  • Ensure tasks are completed according to approved costs, qualities, schedules, and guidelines
  • Monitor equipment installation, including planning, integration of logistics, personnel staffing, training and operational support services

Additional Skills

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills; strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively and professionally interact with government representatives

Other Qualifications

  • Must be capable of obtaining and holding a Department of Defense security clearance; Active Public Trust or Secret clearance highly desired
