NIKA is hiring for a Planner/Estimator to support a facilities maintenance and operations contract at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina!

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Planner/Estimator will plan and estimate structural, electoral, and mechanical projects in multiple facilities with highly complex mechanical, electrical, and structural requirements
  • Attend client meetings
  • Maintain the Task Order Database
  • Perform cost comparisons for repair vs. replacement
  • Prepare complete plans (existing and proposed), specifications, and methods of execution for all work requests
  • Identify factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor
  • Read construction and other technical documents to prepare estimates
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, and contractors
  • Calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates
  • Recommend ways to reduce costs
  • Work with teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients (using RS Means or equivalent)
  • Maintain records of estimated and actual costs
  • Order and track the flow of materials and supplies
  • Ensure contract performance in accordance with the direction and policies of NIKA

Required Skills

  • Must have at least three (3) years of relevant experience in planning and estimating structural, electrical and mechanical projects in a large facility (or multiple facilities) with highly complex mechanical, electrical and structural requirements
  • Must have project management experience within a facility operations and maintenance (or other highly relevant) setting
  • Must be skilled in using RS Means cost estimating software, or other “equal” cost estimating software that is widely recognized within the facilities maintenance and construction industries
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Have a background in governmental maintenance services is preferred
  • Individual should be familiar with government organization and functions; understand current procurement best practices; able to organize and express ideas through excellent oral and written communications to a wide variety of audiences; and demonstrate an unquestionable sense of integrity, honesty, and loyalty
  • The ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and resolve issues


  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience using broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex issues
  • Excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to communicate with various levels within the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, other MS Office suite products, and CMMS is preferred
  • Ability to learn and use company software tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail and the ability to take initiative and adapt quickly to changing requirements

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Must maintain all required city/county/state license(s) and/or certification(s), where applicable
  • Required to maintain a valid state driver’s license
