NIKA is hiring for a Plant Operator to manage and administer a base operations support services contract at Ft. Meade, MD!

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and control process equipment and perform mechanical maintenance throughout the plant. Adhere to all applicable regulations to provide, safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the plant to meet processing, permit, and other applicable requirements
  • Monitor and control plant operations in accordance with company policies and plant standard operating procedures
  • Maintain records of plant operations including, but not limited to, hourly operating data and abnormal operating conditions
  • Ensure that the facility operates within permit compliance, at/above design capability, and produces high quality outputs required to support the DISA facilities at all times
  • Ability to operate all fire protection equipment
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards connected with machine shop and general plant practices with emphasis on the necessity of safety policy compliance
  • Ability to recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the workplace and display proper judgment in responding to them

Required Skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Ten (10) years’ experience as an operator in a multidiscipline environment of similar scope and complexity
  • Experienced and trained in the operation of and maintenance of the Central Utility Plant
  • At least two (2) years of experience in the operation of chillers rated at least 500 tons
  • Strong mechanical & electrical aptitude
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructional manuals, instruction sheets, technical data, work orders and mechanical drawings in English
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills


  • Must maintain a Grade 3 Stationary Engineer license from the Maryland State Board of Stationary Engineers or equivalent license from other jurisdictions
  • Must maintain all required city/county/state license(s) and/or certification(s), where applicable
  • Required to maintain a valid state driver’s license.
