NIKA is hiring for a Staff Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team out of our Rockville, MD office! The Staff Accountant is responsible for compiling data, computing fees and charges, and preparing invoices for billing purposes. Duties include computing costs and calculating rates for services, posting data; and keeping other relevant records, using Microsoft Dynamics and offline methods.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required

Position Requirements

  • 3-5 years of general accounting experience required
  • Microsoft Dynamics or Unanet software experience highly desired
  • Billing in automated accounting system environment experience necessary
  • Some experience with project/GL coding of accounts payable and credit card bills
  • Government contracting experience a plus

Job Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant performs a variety of general accounting support tasks in an accounting department including:

  • Monthly client invoicing
  • Validate Billing data against contracts and Government Task Orders
  • Verifying the accuracy of supporting data for invoices and other accounting documents or records.
  • Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions. Enters data into computer system using defined computer programs.
  • Compile data and prepare a variety of reports and prepare assigned monthly closing journal entries.
  • Assist with preparing of bank reconciliations
  • Reconciles records with internal company employees and management, or external vendors or customers
  • Recommends actions to resolve discrepancies
  • Investigates questionable data
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Compile statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as accounts receivable

Other Duties:

  • Back up to Payroll processing
  • Back up to Accounts Payable processing
  • Assist Payroll/AP Administrator with comparing vendor/subcontractor contract values against vendor bills
  • Assist Payroll/AP Administrator with review of data and entries prepared by Payroll/AP Administrator
  • Contract/Project maintenance
