NIKA is hiring for a Structural/Civil Engineer to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) by providing counsel on compliance and quality management to Facilities Enterprise in design, alteration, and modernization of major building infrastructure structural systems.

Position Description

  • Provides counsel and advice on compliance and quality management to Facilities Enterprise in the  design, alteration, and modernization of major building infrastructure structural systems which include (but are not limited to) building exterior walls of masonry, brick, EIFS, stucco, metal, wood, split-faced block and vinyl cladding; roofs of modified bitumen, tile, fiberglass and composite shingle, metal, single and multi-ply systems and aggregate construction; parapet walls, flashings and flashing details, pitch pots, roof mounted equipment, curbs, skylights and attic vents, gutters, roof drains and roof mounted equipment; all envelope systems that prevent moisture intrusion into the occupied space; windows, doors, storefronts and glazing; lightening protection systems; exterior wall sealants and vapor barriers; foundations, storm drains and subterranean French drains.

Required Skills

  • Expert level skills and extensive practical experience in all aspects of building structural systems necessary to accurately analyze plans, data, designs, operations and maintenance practices and the management thereof.
  • Must possess extensive skill in facility infrastructure structural theory and practical applications in order to develop accurate estimates and makes sound recommendations for repairs, sustainment and optimization of building infrastructure systems.
  • Integrates information from a variety of sources into various systems; ensures proper system interfaces.
  • Must be knowledgeable of local, municipal and federal building codes, criteria and standards.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic and analytical skills to provide highly professional quality presentations to executive leadership and large audiences.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in structural/civil engineering. Professional Engineering registration as structural engineer is required.
  • The incumbent must possess a minimum of 10 years of documented qualifying practical experience in the healthcare field. Practical experience is defined has having the sole responsibility of, and being directly instrumental in the efficient and effective design, installation, maintenance, repair and project management of building structural systems which support large commercial, institutional, industrial or medical healthcare buildings.
  • This practical experience must be recent and within the past six (6) months and span continuously over the preceding four (4) years.
  • The expectation of this incumbent is to possess the expertise and experience to resolve complex problems that his/her contemporaries cannot resolve.
