NIKA is hiring for a Mechanical SME/Test Adjust & Balance Technician  that will be responsible for supporting the DHA pre-design testing of existing HVAC conditions to include identification of failed components and or deficiencies in HVAC control sequences of operations; perform functional testing of delivered HVAC systems and providing assessments and recommendations for Govt. acceptance; troubleshooting air ventilation deficiencies in Medical facilities; developing highly technical solutions to improve system performance, statements of work and cost estimates for all DHA Branches supported by the Engineering & Design Branch.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Mechanical SME/Test Adjust & Balance Technician will participate as a member of a functional testing and design validation of major HVAC systems procured by DHA and reporting directly to the DHA/FE Engineering & Design Branch their observations, findings, and recommendations.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and explain findings and recommendations to facility maintenance providers and the Executive Staff of the Medical Treatment Facilities (MTF) such that they can grasp the findings.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely and in detail of findings in writing and verbal presentations. The duty location will be in San Antonio Texas either at the AFMRA facility on Port San Antonio or at the offices of DHA at the Lincoln Center in San Antonio.
  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS facilities will be ~60% and where possible, the employee usually be at home station on weekends unless they travel OCONUS where scheduling makes it impossible to complete travel and all work within a seven day window.
  • Will be expected to craft detailed Reports of Visits following each travel within 5 days of departure from CONUS locations and 7 days following the departure of OCONUS sites.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) course and certification required
  • Must have at least five years practical experience in the theory, operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems which include chillers, boilers, circulating pumps, air handlers and air distribution systems and building automation systems.
  • Direct experience with major institutional and/or large medical facilities is preferred.
  • Must have above average knowledge of Mathematics, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Square Root, Cube Root, Ratios, Percentages, Equations, Decimals, Fluid Flow, Pressure (static, velocity and total), Resistance (friction and dynamic loss), Velocity, Density, Quantity Heat Transfer, General System Knowledge of Air Distribution Systems, know the purpose of each component in an air system and how these components interact as related to system operating pressure.
  • Know the effect of duct leakage on balancing.
  • Know the function of the fan laws, system effect and V-belt drives, understand the function of the components in various types (constant volume, VAV, dual-duct, terminal reheat, etc.) of air distribution systems.
