Director, Architecture and Engineering Operations
As a Director in NIKA’s Architecture and Engineering Group, Debra Forte is a disciplined, results-oriented design professional. Her unique ability to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces where the interior complements the architecture results in truly cohesive buildings. Her diverse clientele includes U.S. government agencies, military medical organizations, the Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO), USACE, NAVFAC, state universities and more.
As an experienced designer and project manager, Debra works with clients, specialty service providers, and outside vendors to oversee design and production tasks. Her work encompasses virtually all aspects of the design process, including production documentation, finish boards and schedules, schematic design through construction administration, and more. In addition to her extensive work experience and expertise, Debra has established a strong reputation in the industry based on her passion for design and pride in her work.
Debra graduated cum laude from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BfA. in Environmental Design. Active in the profession, she holds certifications as an Associate Member of both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

Authored request for proposal, developed layout and created interior design concepts for a high-end renovation of a 20,000 SF renovation of the historic Latrobe Gate Building.
VIP Medical Suite Renovation (NAVFAC)
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD
2012-2016
High-end, highly secure and specialized renovation of the 10,000 SF US VIP Medical Suite. Produced architectural and interior design drawings sets and was active in all phases of project, from schematic design to completion of CA.
USAID Renovation
U.S. Embassy (OBO), Dhaka, Bangladesh
2013-2015
Developed architectural & interior design package for 24,000 sq. ft. renovation. Completed project through all phases, including process to achieve LEED Silver Certification.
Biomedical Sciences & Engineering Education Building (UMD)
Universities at Shady Grove (USG), Rockville, MD
2014-Present
Managed & developed entire FF&E design and specifications package for a new 220,000 SF Biomedical Sciences & Engineering Education building at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Active in design phase and scope, including assistance in procurement phase for $32 million FF&E package.
