Usman Shakir is a seasoned strategic executive leader with over 20 years of experience in government contracting, technology, and facilities management industries. As the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Usman is responsible for developing and executing the firm’s overall growth strategy, business operations, and leading the firm’s financial and risk management functions.
As the firm’s Chief Operating Officer, Usman oversees business operations for the firm’s three divisions. Specifically, he is responsible for customer engagement, business development and capture, and strategic partnership activities across all divisions. In his role as Chief Financial Officer, Usman is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong back-office infrastructure to support the firm’s growth objectives. In this capacity, Usman oversees the firm’s finance and accounting, legal and contracts, human resources and recruiting, and corporate information technology functions.
Prior to joining NIKA, Usman served as Chief Financial Officer at Berico Technologies and held senior finance and operations roles with Deltek and AOL, where he had financial and operational responsibilities for divisions with revenue exceeding $100M. Usman began his career in public accounting and consultancy at KPMG before moving on to serve in roles at Cendant Marketing Group and GE Capital.
Usman has completed coursework through the Executive MBA Program at the College of William & Mary, and has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland at College Park. Usman has served on the boards of two other Washington, D.C.-based companies, was recognized as a 2016 Trending 40 CFO in the Washington, D.C. area, was a top five finalist for Maryland Technology Counsel’s CFO of the Year Award in 2016, and was a top five finalist for NVTC’s CFO of the Year Award in 2012.
