NIKA is hiring for an Electrical Engineer, PE to provide counsel and advice at a highly technical engineering level on compliance and quality management to the DHA Facilities Enterprise internal and external customers (MTFs) in the maintenance, repair and modernization of major healthcare facilities. This position is based in our San Antonio, TX office.

Job Description
Provides counsel and advice at a highly technical engineering level on compliance and quality management to the DHA-FE internal and external customers (MTFs) in the maintenance, repair and modernization of major building electrical physical plant systems which include building interior electrical wiring and power distribution, lighting systems, power generation systems, automatic transfer switches, large frame electrical power circuit breakers, transformers, power conditioning. and continuation systems (e.g., UPS), solid state electronic controls (e.g.: VFDs) for industrial and large electrical power production physical plants, energy metering, lightning protection and grounding systems, high reliability power systems, medium and high voltage systems, powerline and transmission power systems, fire alarm and mass notification systems, low voltage, and communication systems (e.g., nurse call and public address), video surveillance, intrusion, and security systems.
Position Requirements
- Develops, acquires and executes large and complex infrastructure repair and modernization projects which includes the crafting of measurable performance work statements (PWS), development of accurate current working estimates, collaboration and participation as a technical advisor in source selection boards, chairing project execution and kick-off meetings, serving as the Technical Representative, performing Quality Assurance and Safety compliance visits, performing design and submittal reviews, inspecting for compliance and design compliance in the installation of infrastructure systems.
- Performs functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems delivered through the point-by-point verification of design, installation, functionality and performance of existing and newly installed electrical infrastructure equipment and systems.
- Evaluate proposed projects and technical solutions based on need, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost.
- Answer technical Requests for Information (RFIs) in accordance with codes, regulations, and DHA policy and procedures.
- Travel to sites to investigate open requirement packages and conduct detailed inspections of existing conditions of equipment, evaluate the effectiveness of current maintenance procedures, and confirm the use of correct operational practices.
- Provide a comprehensive and formal travel report detailing the observations, findings, and recommendations conveyed in a technical manner that remains consumable by a non-engineer.
- Mentor junior level engineers helping them not only understand and comply with general engineering procedures and requirements, but also with DHA processes and policies.
- Provide technical review of all junior engineering staff products and provide supervision to ensure development of junior engineering staff in field work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years practical experience in the healthcare field.
- Demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of practical experience in design and consulting.
- Practical experience is defined as having the direct responsibility of execution for design, construction, major, repair, or management of electrical physical plant/infrastructure systems supporting institutional, industrial, or medical healthcare campuses.
- This practical experience must be recent, within the past six (6) months and span over the preceding three (3) out of the last four (4) years.
- The expectation of this position is to possess the expertise and experience to resolve complex problems that his/her contemporaries cannot resolve.
Preferred Skills
- Expert level skills and extensive practical experience in all aspects of the interior, exterior and electrical power generation fields necessary to accurately analyze plans, data, designs, operations and maintenance practices and the management thereof.
- Possess extensive skill in electrical theory and practical applications in order to develop accurate estimates and makes sound recommendations for repairs, sustainment and optimization of building electrical infrastructure systems.
- Knowledgeable of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
- Have strong interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills to provide highly professional quality presentations to executive leadership and large audiences.
- Current Registered Professional Engineering License in field of electrical engineering.
