NIKA is hiring for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Engineering Division in San Antonio, TX.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, acquires and executes large and complex infrastructure repair and modernization projects which includes the crafting of measurable performance work statements (PWS), development of accurate current working estimates, collaboration and participation as a technical advisor in source selection boards, chairing project execution and kick-off meetings, serving as the Technical Representative, performing Quality Assurance and Safety compliance visits, performing design and submittal reviews, inspecting for compliance and design compliance in the installation of infrastructure systems.
  • Performs functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems delivered through the point-by-point verification of design, installation, functionality and performance of existing and newly installed mechanical infrastructure equipment and systems.
  • Provides advice at a highly technical engineering level on compliance and quality management to Facilities Enterprise Engineering Branch in the maintenance and repair of major building physical plant systems which include building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; potable and non-potable water distribution systems; medical waste and sanitary sewer plumbing; medical gas and vacuum systems; security and communications, building automation and control systems; and fire suppression systems.
  • Provides technical engineering support of the DHA Enterprise Water Treatment Management programs, collecting and validating program performance data and metrics for reporting to higher levels and special recognition programs such as Energy Star Assists MTFs in devising methods to improve energy performance and water treatment effectiveness.
  • Mentor junior level engineers helping them not only understand and comply with general engineering procedures and requirements, but also with DHA processes and provide technical review of all junior engineering staff products and provide supervision to ensure development of junior engineering staff in field work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated minimum of five (5) years practical experience in the healthcare field. Three (3) years of this experience must have occurred within the last four (4) years. Practical experience is defined as having the direct responsibility for execution of design, construction, major repair, or management of mechanical physical plant/infrastructure systems supporting institutional, industrial, or medical healthcare campuses.
  • Demonstrated minimum of five (5) years of design and consulting experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain security clearance is required
  • Travel approximately 6-12 times per year
